Integration of Engineering Systems within a Remote Laboratory Facility

Remote laboratories provide a new way of supplementing traditional laboratories by permitting laboratory facilities to be utilized from any place and at any time. This paper focuses mainly on the customization of two engineering systems to be controlled and manipulated from remote locations and finally to integrate them within a remote laboratory facility. The systems are Roomba Create and a small scale model house. The development involved various technical designs and study of performance characteristics. Additionally, a novel method of implementing a safety system for the remote laboratory is discussed.
